The recent Obama care bill passed has many of us scared to death, partially because of the way it has been passed. Not the back room deals, many of us jaded people are use to that. But it is interesting that the party in power has made several attempts to sue its way into power chanting the words every vote must count. That is fine, every vote should count. But you must live up to that statement. When Ted Kennedy died a political appointee by the majority party rammed through a bill. The people of Massachusetts clearly voted for a man who voted against the bill, so instead of allowing their duly elected official his vote.
This is scary enough, but to add insult to injury you politicians pass laws based on dubious science that you sponsor. Until these are corrected faith in your integrity remains slim to none. In recent months the global warming issue has been put highly in question. Prof. Phil Jones of the University of East Anglia is the guy whose e-mails were leaked. Now he admits that he can’t find the data that he used to create the famous “hockey stick” graph and that the earth hasn’t really been warming at all over the last 15 years! Where was the outrage? Where are the investigation? Our politicians did not even flinch they plod along and try to pass Cap and trade based on questionable science. It makes one wonder if our Science agency’s have any scientific integrity at all. Is science being cooked to suit a political agenda?
In April of 2008 The Union of Concerned Scientists said more than half of the nearly 1,600 EPA staff scientists who responded online to a detailed questionnaire reported they had experienced incidents of political interference in their work. Where was the outrage, where are the investigations?
You politicians talk about health care as a right, last time I looked we are a Constitutional Republic and rights are included in the Constitution. Here is one.
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
Yet private property is being declared public space, and smoking bans are being implemented for the collective good, by highly questionable science. The owner of the property can’t even use a legal product on his own property! And all of this is based on highly questionable science! The 1992 EPA report started the smoking bans, the problem is that July 17, 1998 Judge Osteen ruled that they cooked the science to suit their agenda. Granted court overruled the lower court, not on the scientific substance but on the fact that it was an advisory report and the courts had no standing. When it comes to the scientific parts of the case the higher court had no ruling, the thing is that in November 14, 1995
The Congressional Research Service came to the same conclusion. The Surgeon Generals Report was just the same report done by the same activist scientists, they elevated their claims to an even higher level and made the claims that there was no safe level. No cause of a disease has ever been proven at the Relative Risks that they claim, and the claims of no safe level can be dis proven by a high school geometry student. The no safe level in scientific terms is called The linear no-threshold model (LNT) and in order for that to be true the dose response has to be linear and not one of the studies shows any linearity! Not to mention that several former members of Tobacco Control have openly charged the group with Scientific McCarthyism. Including Siegel,Kabat and Enstrom Where were the investigations. If we can’t trust you with Science, and the science behind health care, how can we be sure that you won’t cook the science behind our health care.
I personally do not believe in Collective rights, but the individual rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
Added as a joke
We are Progressive. Lower your shields, and surrender your ship. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service ours. Resistance is futile.
“Collectivism holds that the individual has no rights, that his life and work belong to the group (to “society,” to the tribe, the state, the nation) and that the group may sacrifice him at its own whim to its own interests. The only way to implement a doctrine of that kind is by means of brute force — and statism has always been the poltical corollary of collectivism.” — Ayn Rand,
“Don’t forget that pure democracy is a form of collectivism — it readily sacrifices individual rights to majority wishes. Since it involves no constitutional bill of rights, or at least, no working and effective one, the majority-of-the-moment can and does vote away the rights of the minority-of-the-moment, even of a single individual. This has been called ‘mob rule,’ the ‘tyranny of the majority’ and many other pejorative names. It is one of the greatest threats to liberty, the reason why America’s founding fathers wrote so much so disparagingly of pure democracy.” — Bert Rand
