In Memory Of A Freedom Stolen
29th June 2008.
In the coming days you, dear reader, will be treated to wonderful reports, gleeful stories, magical numbers, and miraculous revelations concerning the smoker ban in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The architects of this cruel and vindictive ban will be back-slapping and high-fiving so much you will be forgiven for thinking that they have entered a team in this sport for the Beijing Olympics.
The smoker ban, all smoker bans, are enacted using lies. The UK bans are no different in that regard, and we have provided ample proof of that here over the last couple of years. The lies will scale new heights in the days to come; record numbers of quitters, business is booming in the hospitality trade, compliance is at 183%, lives saved number in the billions etc etc.
Prior to the onslaught, I ask you merely to question what you read.
Can it all be true if the very reason for the bans,“to protect the workforce”, was false to begin with? We have said this before, and we will say it until it seeps into the public consciousness, the science does not support what the anti-smokers claim. For every study that says second hand smoke is harmful, SIX say the exact opposite. We remind you that even the statement that cigarette smoke is a Class A carcinogen is a lie. The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in the USA had to fiddle drastically with the numbers to make it so. They lied, a federal judge said so. They cherry-picked the data, they tortured the data, and the judge said that their methods did not match international standards. In short, politics and political correctness decided the outcome. Not the science.
I read a newspaper story recently in which the writer asks “Is the smoking ban working?”.
If the intention was to alienate, ostracise, criminalise, denormalise and dehumanise 14 million people, then yes, the ban is working.
If the intention was to destroy the hospitality industry, which has enjoyed year on year growth since the 2nd Century, then yes, the ban is working.
If the intention was to put our senior citizens out in all weathers to enjoy their cigarettes and risk hypothermia, then yes, the ban is working.
If the intention was to put people in harms way, like nurse Cheryl Moss who was stabbed to death while on a legitimate smoke break, but forced off her hospital grounds, then yes, the ban is working.
If the intention was to deprive the Exchequer of £780,000 each time one of the 81 bingo halls closed down, then yes, the ban is working.
If the intention was to allow zealots like ASH to dictate government policy, then yes, the ban is working.
If the intention was to increase the profits and share value of all British registered tobacco companies, then yes, the ban is working.
If the intention was to decrease the profits of all Pubco’s and Breweries, then yes, the ban is working.
If the intention was to dissuade smokers from voting for the Labour Party, then yes, the ban is working.
