The new FCC

August 27, 2009 · 1 Comment

In the past I wrote a blog on the “Fairness Doctrine” and how those on the far left were trying to resurrect it to silence the right wing talk show hosts. The Obama administration has appointed Mark Lloyd Associate General Counsel and Chief Diversity Officer. Now Lloyd wants the independent broadcasters to fund “Public Radio”

Mark Lloyd, newly appointed Chief Diversity Officer of the Federal Communications Commission, has called for making private broadcasting companies pay licensing fees equal to their total operating costs to allow public broadcasting outlets to spend the same on their operations as the private companies do.

Now he may try to claim that this is an attempt to get better programing on public radio but it is more of an attempt to silence “right wing talk show hosts” In an article he co-wrote for Center for American Progress (a progressive/socialist group) he said;

Our analysis in the spring of 2007 of the 257 news/talk stations owned by the top five commercial station owners reveals that 91 percent of the total weekday talk radio programming is conservative, and 9 percent is progressive.

They go on further to say;

Quantitative analysis of all 10,506 licensed commercial radio stations in the country suggests that stations owned by racial or ethnic minorities are statistically
less likely to air conservative hosts or shows and more likely to air progressive hosts or shows

Here were there recommendations to force broadcasters to run their programming;

Require radio broadcast licensees to regularly show that they are operating on behalf of the public interest and provide public documentation and viewing of how they are meeting these obligations.

If commercial radio broadcasters are unwilling to abide by these regulatory standards or the FCC is unable to effectively
regulate in the public interest, a spectrum use fee should be levied on owners to directly support local, regional, and national public broadcasting.
A fee based on a sliding scale (1 percent for small markets, 5 percent for the largest markets) would be distributed directly to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting with clear mandates to support local news and public affairs programming and to cover controversial and political issues in a fair and balanced manner.

They go on to make the claim;

Taken together, these data seem to indicate that potential one-sidedness on the radio dial in terms of political programming may have just as much to do with who the owners are as it does with the demands of market listeners. Where markets are less concentrated and have more diversity of ownership, we see more variety in programming.

The bottom line is the agenda is not fairness if it were the market would decide. This is not about fairness it is about getting their socialist/progressive agenda out on someone else’s dime. Public radio is funded by government money and listener donations. Public radio has not been a fair and balanced media, it has leaned to the left for quite some time.

Broadcast stations depend on advertising dollars and how much a station can charge are based on Arbitron ratings. They don’t mention this fact in their study, if they had it would have invalidated the majority of the study. The liberal progressives made a feeble attempt to start their own broadcast group “Air America” with an extremely poor following from the public.

To put it into perspective:

In Arbitron’s Spring 2008 ratings book, stations carrying a majority AAR programming and in markets reporting every quarter averaged a 1.3 share. The highest rated Air America affiliates were KPOJ in Portland, Oregon (3.7 share), WXXM in Madison, Wisconsin (3.5), and KABQ in Albuquerque, New Mexico (2.6). The lowest rated affiliates were WDTW and WLBY in Detroit, Michigan (unmeasurable), WOIC in Columbia, South Carolina (0.4), WTKG in Grand Rapids, Michigan (0.5), and flagship station WWRL in New York City (0.5).

To emphisise the perspective the highest rating they got was in the uber liberal City of Madison, WI (affectionately called The peoples republic of madison) and then they only got a 3.5 share. So only 3.5% of the radio listeners in Madison listened to them. In Seattle Rush had a 5.4 share of the audience.

While in Madison The station that carries Air America fell from 3.5 to 1.8 quarter-to-quarter. Not a good sign at all for any radio station.

Who does perform well? Conservative talk radio station WIBA which jumped from 6.6 in the winter to 7.6 last quarter. Well known talkers like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity continue to keep that station at the top of the charts.

Now remember Madison is a Progressive/Liberal/socialist area and the listeners of Conservative talk radio is triple that of the Progressive, If you were an advertiser who would you buy time with? If you were an owner, which programming would you put on your station?

Liar in Chief

July 24, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Like Comrade Doyle, Obama promised that our taxes were not going to go up. Comrade Doyle increased the taxes on cigarettes by $1.75 per pack in the last two years! The liar in chief said that he has only cut taxes on those making less then $250,000.00. He conveniently forgets the fact that he raised the tax on cigarette tobacco by 2400%, No that is not a Typo 2400%.

Here he is in his own words lying through his teeth.

Again click on remember these legislators to remember those that have betrayed the trust. It is taxation without representation plain and simple, who represents the smokers.

Military, Your nanny is after you!

July 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment

As you fight for freedom around the world your nanny wants to take your freedom of choice away.

U.S. soldiers are trained to handle deadly weapons and smoke out enemies but they may soon find that they aren’t allowed to handle cigarettes and light up a smoke.

Pentagon health experts are pressing Defense Secretary Robert Gates to ban the use of tobacco by troops and ends its sale on military property, according to USA Today.

Jack Smith, head of the Pentagon’s office of clinical and program policy, told the newspaper that he will advise Gates to adopt proposals by a federal study that cites rising tobacco use and higher costs for the Pentagon and the Department of Veterans Affairs as reasons for the ban.

Freedom fighter Vicki McKenna interviews several ex and present military personnel.

Doyle and promises

May 15, 2009 · 2 Comments

“I will present a balanced budget – one that is balanced the old-fashioned way, with real numbers, not with tricks or gimmicks,” Doyle said. “No inflated revenue estimates – and no tax increase.” “I have said time and again that we are not in this fiscal mess because taxes are too low, or because the taxpayers have not done their fair share. I mean it,” Doyle said. “I will not raise taxes.”

We know he didn’t keep his promise on the taxes. Property taxes are climbing at an alarming rate and he more than doubled the cigarette tax. When you take into account that we already are the 15th highest taxed state in the nation per capita.

On November 20th of 2008, Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle settled into his seat at a packed Capitol press conference he called to deliver the bad news. Due to the slumping economy, Governor Doyle told the press, Wisconsin faced a $5.4 billion shortfall over the next two fiscal years. In outlining his plan to fix the imbalance, Governor Doyle forcefully stated:

“We have to balance the budget. We are not the federal government. When we are in difficult financial circumstances, we can’t just say, ‘well, that’s alright, let’s just spend more money here, or let’s spend more money there.’ We don’t have that option.”

Yet an analysis of state budgeting practices over the past decade shows something much different. In setting the budget for the past several biennia, governors and legislators of both parties have employed several strategies that have allowed the state to spend more money than it takes in. When faced with balancing the budget or spending more taxpayer money, the Governor and Legislature virtually always side with spending as much as possible, leaving future government officials to address any shortfalls.

Wisconsin’s general fund revenues are derived from several sources. The lion’s share of general fund revenues comes from taxes. The major tax sources are individual income taxes (52% of state general fund tax collections in fiscal year 2008), sales taxes (about 34%), and corporate income taxes (about 6%). Various other taxes such as cigarette taxes, other excise taxes (e.g., alcohol taxes), public utility taxes and insurance company taxes also contribute to tax revenues.

Now if you spend more than you take in can you vote and tell your boss that you voted yourself a pay raise because you over spent on non-essentials. Of course not. Essentials to the government are infrastructure,schools,police,fire,etc. Not lobby groups and not discretionary spending such as tobacco control. Tobacco Prevention and Control Program funding has been restored to its current level of $15.25 million per year. Yes
it is only $15.25 million. But if every one of these non-essential programs was eliminated would there even be a deficit?

It is also not time to implement draconian laws that are known to hurt businesses. In rural communities taverns collectively are one of the largest employers in the state. Make no mistake smoking bans hurt business. This has been proven time and time again. That is why states such as Nevada, Ohio and Minnesota have bills pending exempting bars. Remember if you hurt a business you hurt the tax base. It is getting to the point there is no way to tax his way out. So we shall see on Monday if Comrade Doyle caves in to the lobby groups and Big Pharma, the groups he is beholding to. Or does what is good for the state.

Laissez-faire=fascism?

May 12, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I was on a fellow bloggers site the other day when in the comment section he was called a fascist because he held laissez-faire beliefs.

You are a raging psychopath. And the way you describe yourself is clearly a republican. You believe the biggest kid on the playground should be able to kick the crap out of anyone they want with no interference from the teacher. Laizzes faire economics is most closely related politically to facism. Which by definition means pure top down control, which is how corporations operate. You are a facist.

So I found a few videos to try to educate people as to what form of government we have and the differences compaired to other forms of governments.

First we do not live in a democracy, as much as the liberal/progressive movement would like to push that ideal because it would simply take a majority to strip you of your rights and give more power to the mob or big government.
